Hope you enjoy this Owners Report of the Glock 26. Since this is a subcompact semi auto pistol, the frame is a bit small for my hands, so I added the aftermarket magazine extensions. They added two extra rounds, bringing the capacity to 12. With them it fits great, handles well and is ideal for concealed carry. To me the Glock 26 has a very good balance of size, weight, and magazine capacity. However, the same basic size gun can be had in other calbers – of course if you go larger it may not have as many rounds and the recoil will be greater since this is lighweight pistol. Check out Glock’s web site for a list of the calibers and model numbers. I think 9mm is ideal for this size & weight gun, but you may feel different – so shop around and see what works for you. Check out my other videos to see what shooting this gun is like!! Glocks have a fine reputation for being reliable, and long lasting firearms and the 26 is no exception. Introduced in August 1994, they are still popular today, and should remain a benchmark in years to come. I think you’ll enjoy owning one, so give it a try at a range near you!! I hope you enjoyed hearing my thoughts on this gun, they are based on owning and shooting it. Thanks again for watching!!

COMPACT: “having the property of being packable or easily carried.” When gun manufacturers use that term in describing their handguns, sometimes it leads to confusion with the buyer. Compact ain’t always compact in my experience. In this short video, I discuss some key considerations as you shop for your carry gun. Using the Sig P228 and H&K USP Compact .40 as examples, you will see that these guns are not really compact or easily carried in a Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) POU. And yet some, like the current Sig P229, are touted as “compact and ideal for concealed carry.” These guns are indeed excellent intermediate handgun choices that work well in shoulder hosters (if you can conceal them appropriately) or open-carry situations. They are slightly shorter and lighter than their full-sized counterparts (except the Glock [not shown] which remains amazingly light in its full size g17, G22 form). But they are many better, more comfortable, and truly compact carry choices (often termed “sub-compact”). As an off-duty officer or responsible and licensed armed civilian, you should have a high percentage of carry in your daily life. To do this you need to choose a system, with an appropriate firearm as its foundation, that will work for you day in and day out. I show several recommended and reviewed choices in TNP: Kahr PM9, Kel-Tec PF-9, Kel-Tec P3-AT, and Sig P238 (other good options SW Airweight .38s, Ruger LCP, Ruger LCR, Walther PPK, Bursa .380 Thunder, Walther PSS, Beretta Jetfire). While maybe lacking in ultimate firepower and stopping power, they possess small, thin, and light form factors that carry well and yet can stop the threat if skillfully employed. So don’t be fooled by the sometimes misleading factory nomenclatures and descriptions of their guns. Accurately identify your primary and most important POU for the gun and prioritize your purchasing accordingly. If a concealed carry is on that list, do yourself a favor and opt for these smaller guns first. Then as money allows, you can expand your handgun capabilities into other desirable pous.

Sturm Ruger Firearms – General Info and History of Company

Sometimes you need a small, unobtrusive, reliable pistol. In cases of concealed carry, a small, thin, smooth-edged pistol without an exposed hammer is best. That is exactly what the Ruger Light Compact Pistol (LCP) offers. With a virtually indestructible glass-filled nylon frame and a through-hardened, blued steel slide, the Ruger LCP may be small, but it’s tough as nails.

Safety is a big priority for the Ruger firearms engineers, and to that end, they have incorporated a “view hole” next to the extractor, to tell if there is a round in the chamber. This is enormously important, since the leading cause of accidental firearms discharges is “I didn’t know it was loaded”. With the view hole, all it takes is a quick glance, and there is no doubt.

The Ruger LCP comes in .380 caliber, with a six round magazine, and a barrel length of 2.8 inches. It weighs a mere 9.4 ounces, and has a width of .82 inches, which makes it perfect for use as a concealed carry or back-up gun. The LCP features fixed sights and a checkered grip with a contoured groove for your thumb.

Trigger pull on the Ruger LCP is 5.6 ounces. Recoil is surprisingly manageable, due to the fact that the Ruger LCP uses a locked-breech system, like larger pistols, instead of the blowback principle, like so many smaller pistols.

The level of reliability displayed by the Ruger LCP is exceptional, but like any pistol, it functions best with high quality ammo in good condition. In field tests by NRA certified pistol experts, the Ruger LCP functioned and shot without flaw, regardless of the type of ammo used; jacketed hollowpoint, round nose full metal jacket, flat nose full metal jacket, polymer tip powerball, hollow cavity, homogenous copper hollow cavity, and cast lead flat nose bullet ammunition. Everything fed, fired, and ejected without fail.

In defensive situations, heavier bullets are more desirable for the Ruger LCP, because they penetrate more deeply. The two biggest variables affecting penetration are velocity and weight. Since the Ruger LCP has a barrel length of only 2.8 inches, there isn’t a lot of length for pressure to build behind the bullet, so a defensive shooter would want to maximize the other variable: bullet weight.

Ideally, one of the best ways to carry a Ruger LCP is in a small, unobtrusive inside-the-waistband holster. Preferably one made of a soft material, like suede. Some concealed carry permit holding individuals prefer to carry a Ruger LCP in an ankle holster.

When it comes to firearms, especially concealed carry guns and backup guns, failure is not an option. Firearms are unique in this respect. If a wrench doesn’t work, it isn’t imperative. Get another wrench. It isn’t a life or death situation. If you need your pistol, chances are you really NEED your pistol! Chances are high that your life depends on it. You cannot afford to have a misfire or failure to feed. That is where the long, proven history of reliability among Ruger firearms comes into play. The Ruger LCP is no exception. In field tests and at the range, the Ruger LCP is exceedingly reliable, which is exactly what you want if you ever have to draw your concealed carry pistol or backup gun.

All in all, the Ruger LCP is a great little pistol: well made, reliable, light and convenient. It is as close to the perfect concealed carry gun as 21st century firearms engineering can achieve.

Raymore’s loosening of gun laws also allows residents to carry guns into parks and city-owned buildings, even City Hall, except during council meetings. At those times, only council members can be armed.

The Board of Governors at Colorado State University voted 7 to 0 to ban guns from its campuses in Fort Collins and Pueblo, a decision that pitted faculty members against students demanding to exercise their right to carry guns. Guns had been banned at the University of Colorado, but Colorado State had followed a state law that allows a person to carry a concealed weapon as long he or she has a permit. Neighboring Utah allows concealed weapons on state property, and a court has ruled that colleges are not excepted. A Colorado faculty group said the ban would make the campuses safer, but a student, Brady Allen, 25, told the board that fear of an accidental discharge from a concealed weapon was not a good reason to ban guns. “You might as well ban everything that has a potential risk — cars, alcohol and sports,” said Mr. Allen, a history student and a former Marine. Gun rights advocates say campus bans make students vulnerable to attacks. In 2007, a gunman at Virginia Tech killed 32 people and wounded 23 before killing himself. The university board’s vote instructs the presidents of both campuses to submit a weapons plan by February.
