Ankle holsters are meant to be worn around the leg and covered with a pants leg. These holsters are often criticized for their difficulty in drawing the weapon due to having to crouch down and pull up the pants leg. Kneeling down puts you in a vulnerable position and will make a mugger suspicious that you are reaching for something.

Shoulder holsters, like ankle holsters are often considered a compromise to the inside the waistband holster, and also raise safety concerns. While drawing the weapon from a shoulder holster, you will have to cross your own arm or body with the muzzle of the weapon, one of the first things that a shooter is taught never to do. In order to conceal a shoulder holstered weapon, you will need a coat or shirt capable of easily being parted to give you access to the weapon.

The majority of the holsters out there are designed for men, which poses a problem for the different shape of a woman.
